My son is 3 1/2 and has been potty trained for about a year. All except for the ol' #2. We were doing really well for a couple months with both and then all of the sudden he seems to be petrified of pooping on the potty. He knows that if he does it he'll feel better let alone get a reward. But instead he insists on hiding and doing it in his underwear. If I catch him I make him sit on the potty and "try" which for him is almost impossible and of course it has "gone away". Every time he's quite I have to make sure he isn't going. I don't know what to do anymore.
The other day my mom watched him for 1 hour and I guess he figured since I wasn't around it was time to drop a load. She said it fell out of his pants on to the floor. She thought it was hilarious... me on the otherhand, I feel defeated.

I've heard of this happening. Luckily, it hasn't happened to me yet. We have an issue with #1. He'll just sit there and pee in the pants -- it's so frustrating! I have to carry around an extra pair of underwear and shorts just in case he has an accident. Poor kid.

I know this all too well. When my son had just turned 3, even though he was familar with the potty and never went in his pants at home, any time we went anywhere (church, mall, park, etc.) he would just "forget" and go in his pants. I honestly think he just was too busy playing to remember to hold it in and go to the potty. He grew out of it. Yours will too.

You're not alone! 3 years and 4 months was the "magic" age for my first two sons. My youngest, who is now at that "magic" age, is fine with going #1, but is all talk when it comes to #2 (he knows what he's supposed to do, but won't). I have been trying to have him sit on the potty, and the bribery list is getting ridiculous (jelly beans, new Thomas the Train, etc.). I just have to remember that he won't go off to college in diapers (hopefully!). Just like crawling, walking, and talking, it'll just click one of these days (but hopefully sooner than later). Hang in there!

Can I make a suggestions?

Watch the next few days of what time of the day he does #1 (or even #2). Just keep track what time of the day it is. Once u notice the consistency with the time, than start having them sit on the little potties before that time until they do do it in the potty.

I know we did this with my grand niece, but I also learned this by watching Jon & Kate plus 8. its like at times they are on a schdule time when to do it. once u know for sure when they have a habit of doing it...then u know u can get them in the habit sitting on the potty for it.

Just give it a try (if u haven't already) and see what happens.

Yeah, that's still a battle at our house with going #2...he's getting better, but still has accidents...I've decided it's because he drinks so much apple juice, his BMs are very unpredictable. We've tried making him go without diapers/pullups and telling him he has to clean up the mess if he goes on the floor. We tried keeping him in diapers and making him clean his own behind. Neither of those options work too well in the long run...guess who has to clean up spots he missed, both on the floor and on his behind?

This weekend we're trying putting him in his very own brand new big boy Scooby-Doo underwear and advising him it would not be a "cool dude" thing to poop on Scooby-Doo.

Let's all wish each other luck...and post our various results...I don't know what else to do. But then again, I thought he'd never give up the binky, or sleep in his toddler bed...I'm sure it'll all come in time, that "this, too, shall pass".
