Over the years, there have been THOUSANDS of fictional moms, in TV shows and in the movies. Are there any of them that inspire you, or make you laugh? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

As for me, I thought long and hard about it, and there was one name that flew to the top of the list -- Marge Simpson. Smart, tough, devoted and loyal to her family, a great wife, a heckuva mother. The fact that she is animated doesn't make her any less of a perfect woman (even if she does have webbed toes)

Hmmmmm...this is a hard one since there were many great ones there.

I would have 2. One is Roseanne -she just had a wonderful way to bring humour into everything. Some will say that was probably her "numbing" behavior to hide her true feelings. Maybe that is true, but at least she laughed, and helped everyone else laugh.

The second is Clara huxatable-Cosby Show. Now that was one mom who took her family serious and laughed when appropiate. But she loved her children and despite their mistakes, she discipline with dignity and respect to her kids. She surely showed it to them and knew how to show her kids how proud she was of them when they accomplish and succeeded things.

I feel like there is someone else, but right now my brain is not coughing up the name. It'll come to me!

OK, I know this is going way back, but so do I...how 'bout Ma Walton? She always seemed so warm and gentle and patient and loving. And I loved, loved, loved the wisdom and humor of the mom/grandma on Judging Amy.

Anyone agree?

another one I'd like to mention, for all the WRONG reasons, is Lucille Bluth from the show "Arrested Development"

She was a mean, hard-drinking mother with a criminal husband and penchant for plastic surgery. She was absolutely awful to her children. And yet, she's one of the funniest characters ever.

"Get me a vodka rocks."
"Mom, it's breakfast."
"And a piece of toast."

Love "Arrested Development," although I can't say that Lucille Bluth is much of a role model.

I always like Samantha on "Bewitched," and -- this is the 8-year-old girl in me talking -- Ma Ingalls from "Little House on the Prairie."

Oh, and what about the mom on the Partridge family? I thought she was super cool (or shouldn't I say, "groovy" or "far-out")? That's my 8-year-old self talking here.

My 14 year old self says the mom from One Day At A Time...divorced, career woman, living in a big city, etc. That was my feminist tendencies blossoming there.

Mid-to-late teens: loved the mom on Family Ties. Seemed a very funky and hip family.

Then when I married husband #1 as a teen and hating every minute of it after a few years, I loved Peg Bundy from Married With Children. I swore (threatened) I'd end up like her. Luckily, I got out before the kids came along.

But yeah, now from the lofty perspective of my mid-life perch, I honestly appreciate the values of some of the more "old-fashioned", down to earth moms, in real life and on TV.

Peg Bundy from Married with Children. She was so witty and mean to AL Smiler And she had a smoking bod, and deep down don't we all wish we could pull off that hairSmiler Don't even get me started on the bon bons.

Of course, I only need to have a son and my husband swears we'll be the Connors, as in Rosanne.

And for all her qwirks and anal-retentiveness, I admire Kate Goslin (from Jon and Kate plus 8). I wish I had one tenth of her organizational skills, but I think sometimes that were I her husband I would smack her if she talked to me like that!!

guilty, i'm a little house fan too. Ma was always so kind and gentle...a far cry from reality but we need that once in a while.

i remember a few years ago when i was home bound after my accident, i could find little house on just about any time during the day on my satellite. it was wonderful, my mom was there taking care of me and i could watch laura all day long!

a little more current, anyone watched army wives on lifetime? i know it's really a soap technically speaking but most of the issues are real. my sister lines up perfectly with Claudia Joy. If you haven't watched it, be prepared to laugh, cry and be angry all at the same time.

Of the two new shows I've been watching: Army Wives is one -- a guilty pleasure on Sunday nights. And then there's Mad Men, Betty Draper makes me happy to not be a '60s housewife and mother. Thank goodness I live in the 21st century.

Im also a huge fan of Roseanne.. And while Ive never seen Arrested Development, the mom sounds right up my alley.
I also loved Grace from Grace Under Fire.
I want a funny mom.. But not to0 go0d for people. Normal 'everyday' people..Maybe a little unconventional.. Who make me laugh.
