1 task at a time. That what my husband requires. Don't send him to the kitchen and request ICE water AND a bagel. He will have to make two trips. Forget about specialty items at the store...they often have difficult names and will be forgotten. I realize it's because he starts out listening but tunes out after 45 seconds. If you can get more than one request in in that time God bless you.

Yesterday I sent him to Mother Earth for Lecithin (I have clogged ducts AGAIN) and had to think of a creative way to get this memorized. As he was walking out the door asking for the third time what it was I needed I said,"LECITHIN...remember, I'm LESS THIN than I used to be."

He remembered.

Don't even get me started....

"Hon, when I asked for help with the laundry, I meant not only to put it in the washer, but when that's done, put it in the dryer, too. Then turn the dryer ON." Mad

I may have chimed in here a few years ago. However, lately I have to say I am losing my memory and do not have much room to talk. I have serious brain drain some days and cannot remember what I am doing- hence the explanation for the several times I have flooded our laundry room by filling up the sink and walking out while it is still running.. That is only one of many examples!

LOL @ LEW!!

yeah, I'm guilty of this too. I just blame it on the 40ish thing! Wink

but at the same time, I do get what Mary and Jam is saying too!! My son, not yet 20 already started that memory selective thing!

Oh, yeah, I'm lousy with forgetfulness anymore. I don't know if it's a new mom thing or a 40 thing, since both happened to me within weeks of each other. More than likely, I just got a double dose of it....it's scary.

Example: I'm at the grocery store...can't remember if Big A likes graham crackers....call hubby. Ask, "Hon, does Big A eat a lot of......what are they called? I can't remember. You know, they're square....they're crispy, sort of....they're brown....what are they? You know what I'm talking about."

Well, of course he didn't know what I was talking about.

But the scary part is that I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE LOOKING AT THE BOX OF KEEBLER GRAHAM CRACKERS....a huge stack of them, the reason for my call was they were on sale BOGO. I'm staring right at them, and my brain, as always, is racing 5 miles ahead, so I can't gather it together enough to simply read the box.

Shudder at the years ahead.

Well I'm only in my late 20s and I forget stuff all the time - so I don't know that it's age. I think it's just that we've all got so much to keep track of: appointments, passwords, meetings, birthdays - it's overwhelming at times.

As far as my husband though. I don't think it's that he doesn't remember the stuff I tell him, it's just not as much of a priority for him. Like when I ask him to do the dishes, I mean please do them right now, but he interprets that to mean do them whenever you get around to it. I guess I just need to be more specific. I just remember that he does eventually do them, so I can't complain about that. Smiler

I'd love to be able to stand up for my gender, but my memory stinks. I'm like the guy in "Memento" I have to write everything down or I forget it in ten minutes.

Is it that you/they forget or that we just get tuned out after a few seconds so we're never heard in the first place?

If you haven't heard of Mark Gungor please try to find a copy of Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage.

Here's a clip that explains the difference between men's and women's brains. It's funny and ever so true.

Mary -- to answer your question, it depends on the tone. If its a conversational tone, then we just forget sometimes. If its a shrill or loud tone, THEN we tune out.
