We went to Orlando yesterday and used the GPS. Not only was it really distracting and we nearly died as the my husband was so busy playing with it and adjusting it and looking at the map on it that he forgot he was driving, but we became dependent on it. We went back and forth to the same place all day and not once could we do it without the GPS because we didn't look at our surroundings, pay attention to what road we were on or memorize the directions. We just followed the green arrow on the screen and waited for the nice lady to say, "turn left in 100 yards." Do you agree that technology can cause us to lose our common sense?

I have to say that this does seem a bit over the top. I've thought that a GPS system might be nice for me because I am pretty skittish when it comes to driving someplace for the first time. However, you are right about keeping your head up and on the road. If I didn't do that I would never learn how to drive anyplace. I'm a very visual kind of person using landmarks to tell me where I am. Without that I would never learn how to get around.

We love the GPS my mother purchased for us. We don't use it when we know where we are going; however, it is no different (although MUCH better) than using rand mcnally or map quest for trips. And we don't have to waste paper to print!

We program the GPS before leaving the house and then don't mess w/ it. When we were first given it, we did...until we realized we were endangering everyone in the car. Technology can be so much fun
