OK so this might be too much detail, but we've all dealt with it I'm sure.

My daughter is 2 and potty trained. She went straight to panties at 20 months and has done great ever since. But right now, she seems to have a tummy bug and is, well, not making it in time. I was going through several panties, and she was getting upset about it too.

So, I put her in a diaper. (We had some around because she still wears them at night.) Do you think it's bad for me to put her in a diaper? I don't want her to regress or think she can start going whenever, wherever...?

I think she will be fine as long a you reassure her that this is just because of being and sick having having accidents.
I have done that occasionally with my son when he was close to finishing his potty training and he didn't regress.

We dealt with this a couple times, and he was always fine. Of course, the bug never lasted more than a couple days. Do you think it would make a difference if you used pull-ups as opposed to diapers? Then she might feel like she was still in underwear.

That's a good idea! We went straight from diapers to panties, so I sort of forget about pull-ups. I probably just need to chill out and not be so concerned about it. I'm sure she'll be fine. Smiler

Also, during such sickness remember to give her lots of water. Diarreah really dehydrates a body, which can make it take longer to recover, so less milk and more water while she is sick.

When my daughter was born, my son totally regressed in all of his potty training progress. He wore diapers for another 6 months and then gave them up on his own a few months after turning 3. I was told not to push him-due to the big adjustment of getting a sister. I would imagine your daughter will opt to go back to being a big girl in due time.

There is definitely a stomach bug going around. I was babysitting my sisters two kids and they had it and gave it to my 3 yr old son. It's a pretty nasty bug too. My son is potty trained but I did decide to put him in pull ups and he was a little upset about that so I put his underwear over them, that helped. This bug is pretty harsh so don't forget some gatorade too for electrolytes, I diluted it with water. Hope your daughter feels better soon, it's rough when they're sick.
