Not sure how many of you have seen the commercials on Noggin for First Book, but I went to their site to get info and I am thinking about creating a local advisory board. The closest one to us is near Florida State. What First Book is about is getting books into the homes of underprivileged kids. There is no money involved. I haven't gotten the information yet, because I wasn't sure how many people I could get involved...they want at least 3-5. It involves holding book drives and getting the word out about First Book....so anyone wanna join me?

I would love to get more information on this. Depeding on how much time it would take up would really depend on if I could help or not but I'll definately check it out.

That sounds like a great idea and I'd love to help out...I have always loved to read and am so thrilled that my 2 year old is really starting to get into it now! Let me know when you find out more information.

YAY! I sent an email to the regional coordinator...she is out of the office until Monday. Hopefully, I will hear from her then and I will let everyone know what she says.

This is great! My kids' school gets books donated to them all the time.
Since we live in what is considered a "poor town" and a lot of the the kids in the school my kids go to are considered "underprivileged" I tell you first hand how excited the kids are about getting a new book to take home. We are not rich, far from it, but my kids have/receive books and have their own small libraries, but they are always excited when they get to bring a new book home and being able to write their name in it. What a great thing you want to organize. I know I my kids would be excited to "recycle" their books to other children as well. Tammy |
