NW Gainesville 3 boys (1-3 y/o and 2 -1y/o's) and a step-mom and step-grandma, too! |
So I had a horrible day at work today, which happens, sometimes, except my boss was supposed to be gone today, and I had been excepting a rather light and easy day. So that made the rough day even rougher.
Then, I come home and the mulch delivery at the house created a magnet effect on the two older boys, so they were in, on and around it since 11AM this morning. And had dragged and slopped it everywhere through the house. The house looks like an Iraqi car bombing. And we have to be at this family dinner thing in an hour, and no one is close to ready to go. I'm in the kitchen feeling the stress of the day and the messy house and my oldest, who is just finishing his first year of "school" comes up to me with this little bag. In it, he had made me a Mother's Day gift at school, a pretty (well, absolutely gorgeous, if you must know) glazed ceramic ring holder, with "Happy Mother's Day, Love, Alex, 2008" written on it. Plus, a hand-made card, and a bookmark made out of a laminated picture of him. He hands this all to me and hugs me and says, "Happy Mudder's Day, Mommy!" I still feel choked up. This is my first ever Mother's Day gift hand-made by and exclusively from my first born. THIS is why we're mothers. My day is now perfect. Just thought I'd share. So Sweet! Isn't it great how (sometimes) when we need it the most we get the greatest moments! We are leaving on vacation tomorrow, so of course today I have been running around like a maniac...well, we end up needing to go to Walmart with the kiddos and while they were being really good...it's still crowded Walmart...so I'm starting to stress about being able to get it all done and little man (who is sitting in the top of the cart) just lays his head on me and says "i love you mommy"....I almost cried in Walmart!

Hawthorne 3 wonderful kids! step-son (17) son (8) girl (5) |
I think our little ones can sense when we need that little extra to make us feel better. I know my son, being the mommy's boy he is, will just tell me "I love you" for no other reason than to tell me.

That is so precious!! I look forward to those gifts again someday. Eli had a year of preschool before we knew about the autism and they had a mom's brunch that had homemade hats..fun!
I agree..children, even the autistic ones, know. Eli will often try to comfort either his father or I if he thinks we're upset. It's sweet..he pats me and says, "cuddle? Oh, poor little boy!" Meg, Mom to Alexis, 21; Jacob, 18; Elijah (PDD-NOS), 5; and Sophie, 3. |
