So my daughter comes home today from her first day of school. Of course we just moved here from Indiana this summer, so not only was it her first day back to school it was her first day ever to this school. So I ask her about her day and she says that she and one other girl were the only two students in the class that were new to the school. And where was this girl from? Indiana. Not only Indiana, but my hometown. She was living only one hour away from us; in the same town as my Mom and Dad. My guess is that this little girl's parents probably went to school with either myself, one of my sisters, my husband, or at least knew someone in our family. How crazy is that! So now it's my mission to find out this girls last name and who her parents are.
That's awesome! Isn't it so neat when things work out like that. I'm glad your daughter had someone she could bond with and relate to on her first day.
Yeah, despite the fact that J said she didn't make any friends! Hehe! I said well, did you introduce yourself. Well...no. She'll get into the swing of things soon.
It would be really neat if we knew them! You wouldn't believe how many people we've met here already who were originally from Indiana. I have no idea why. Possibly because the job market is so cruddy up there right now with a majority of jobs in factories.
Where in Indiana are you from? My entire family is from there, and most are still scattered throughout the state. Between me, my husband and my parents my son is so confused -- he doesn't know whether to say Go Gator, Go 'Noles or Go Big Red!
We're from the Ft. Wayne area. We lived about 30 minutes from Ft. Wayne in Columbia City. I was born and raised in Angola. Angola is about 20 minutes from the Michigan line and about the same to the Ohio line.
We've got some family left in Fort Wayne, although most are closer to Indy in Anderson, Chesterfield, Fishers ... that area. I spent every major holiday in Indiana throughout my childhood -- it holds a special place in my heart.
I have a friend who just moved here from Ft. Wayne about a year ago. She hated it there but seems to be enjoying Gainesville. I visited several times and loved it but I'm a small-town girl.
Update on this: I just now got around to telling my parents about how J has someone in her class from the Ft. Wayne area. I knew the little girl had the same last name as a Dr. in the area, and sure enough the Dr's family has moved here. My parent's actually went to this family's house for dinner once. I find this all too crazy!
