I want to do something memorable...but I can't think of anything! My SO and I are already planning on getting married next Fall, but my ring money went towards the down payment for our first home. So we're not technically engaged.
So I decided to take things into my own hands and propose to him. Right now we live across the country from each other (he's living in Arizona, where we're building our house) but he's coming to visit the first week in October work permitting. Anyone have any ideas of what I could do in Gainesville or nearby? We've been to St. Augustine twice, I don't really think he wants to go back anytime soon, which kills my only idea! |

maybaby08: First of all, you don't have to be traditional with a ring. Save the ring for the wedding. Do something different and unique that will be really special for you two.
If you really want to be traditional, then do something that is affordable now and later upgrade when you can afford it. Writing a love letter. Go someplace that is special that only you two know it will be. You can go to the beach or a nice picnic and do something special there. Pack a romantic luncheon or dinner in a picnic basket. Include a romantic - love letter and maybe not necessary a ring but something else that you both can wear. I know having a ring is so traditional, but if finances is so tight, you can always replace it with something else and when/if the time comes maybe he will come up with the ring (that is for him to do, not you dear!). I'm sure the ladies here will have loads of other exciting suggestions as well. Whatever you decide what to do, don't forget to share it...cuz now we are going to be really curious, and excited for you. |

Thanks for your ideas! I think I've figured out what I'm going to do. We'll see if I end up changing my mind or not
I found a wedding band on ebay ($25 with shipping, but I really like it. I'll post a picture of it at the end). I tried to think of a necklace or money clip or something but couldn't think of anything that he'd like/actually wear. And he thinks I'm hard to buy for! We're both car nuts, although I'm a Chevy girl and he loves his Fords. There's Big Daddy Don Garlits' auto museums in Ocala. I haven't been in so long, and he's never been. So I'm thinking about taking him (and our 4 month son) there for the day, and proposing sometime that day. His dad proposed to his mom in their '65 Mustang by hiding the ring in the glove-box. I highly doubt they'll let me do that there, but I sent them an email to ask anyway. Can't hurt to ask, plus how many girls do they get in there that are planning to propose? I don't think that many. Maybe someone will have a weak spot for things like this Then I'm hoping I'll be able to find a babysitter and take him out to dinner just the two of us. |

You see!!! now you are letting your creative ideas come into place. It sounds so exciting.
If you need a babysitter for this ocassion, I'll be happy to step up to the plate for you. This is going to be sooooo much fun for you two and it will be memorable. Glad you were able to find a ring on Ebay. I never thought about going there. (Hey he does not have to know!) It'll be our secrete. I can't wait to hear how it turned out (and if you can, take pictures, that will be perfect for your wedding scrapbook). |

Thank you so much for the offer to babysit! I truly appreciate it. Because of his work schedule we're not exactly sure when he's coming, but as time gets closer I'll definitely PM you.
If I can somehow beg and plead my way into something special at the auto museum I'm going to push my luck further and beg and plead for someone to take pictures |

Well, I got close! I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to hide a ring in a car. But we're getting a backstage tour by Don Garlits himself! (it's costing me more than I would like...but I'm also on the quest to have the coolest baby book ever, so there's another awesome picture in the book. (So far Andrew has pictures with Shaq and Tebow haha))
Since the tour is expensive I don't think we're going to do dinner too. Darn. But we'll see |

Sounds good. You could make his favorite dinner or you could go for a picnic as well. I think it will be awesome!!
