This story broke my heart and I just want to encourage you all to be involved in any events sponsored by this organization devoted to building a children's hospital in Gainesville. I desperately want this to happen and hope that it will. They have an upcomming event but it is sold out...they will have more!

I have been reading and looking into this and had even talked to some of Tim's doctors about this. It surprises me that Gainesville does not have a children's hospital at all. I think Orlando has 3 now.

maybe we should put the sales of the cook book towards this? or 1/3 of it at least.

Oh my goodness. The name was always familiar but I could never find any pictures to confirm what I thought until you put the link up to the foundation. I took care of him when I worked in childcare. He went to the daycare I worked at and was in the same class with my daughter, he was exactly 5 days older than her. I was the caretaker in the infant room when I first started. When I saw his face I just started crying. If they have, which I'm sure they will, any more fund raisers or anything that you guys hear of, please let me know.

Sun Country is having a Halloween event with proceeds going to the foundation. I believe it's $15/child, adults free. Prices go up if you don't purchase the tickets ahead of time.

I have signed up to volunteer with the foundation. I think this is a wonderful cause and truly hope we can make the children's hospital a reality soon.

I'll definitely have to check into that event. I did an article on the foundation about six months ago and had the privilege of talking to the dad. What a wonderful family and what a devastating loss. I can't even begin to imagine how I would feel...

Hello all. The Sebastian Ferrero Foundation will also be a participating partner in Screaming for Safety this Friday at Kiwanis Safety City. I believe they will be taking donations as well as provding information on patient advocacy.

Thanks!

It broke my heart to see how much this mother was suffering and to see that little boy being buried! It is the most tragic thing I have ever experienced in my life, specially being a mother!!!! The "Law of life" says that our kids should bury us, not the other way around!
My oldest daughter is only a few months younger than him, and they used to play together!! And his new brother was born 6 days after my younger daughter! They just had their youngest son this year!

I am so sorry sweetie. It is quite devastating and I do not know the little boy. He was so adorable and I'm glad we are getting involved. I like the idea of the cook book proceeds being donated here. This is our community, our children...let's take care of our home.

Hello all--I don't post often but follow your conversations and advice as a mother of one almost-two-year-old. Smiler My name is Emily and I work at the Pediatrics Department at Shands and wanted to throw in my two cents...

Another great way to help this foundation is through your vocal support. If you don't know, pediatrics is not a current focus of the local healthcare system and I believe that passionate advocacy from citizens is absolutely essential to make university and hospital decision-makers understand that we must focus on quality children's care for our area. Volunteer, donate if you're able, and fight, fight, fight for dedicated healthcare for our children.

We've all seen from this family the devestating effects sub-standard children's care can take...our children are not 'little' adults--they're children and they should be cared for as such.

Smiler

Emily, thank you so much for your input! It's great to hear from someone that works in the pediatric department and see, hears and experiences everything that goes on. You're right. I think it's often easy to forget that children aren't mini adults. They are so different, and they require such special care.
