I just realized I hadn't posted what happened and I don't know if anyone cares to read it but I love hearing ppls labor stories so here's mine. The details are fuzzy.
Sunday the 29th of June around noon I started having contractions about 15 min apart. Not too painful but this continued all day. At around 6PM I called my midwife and she said it sounded like falso labor--take a warm bath and drink a liter of water and if it is, the contractions will stop--they didn't. Hubby and I went to his parents for dinner (a prego girl's still gotta eat!) where contractions got stronger and at 8 pm were 10 min apart. Everyone came over. His parents, 3 sister-in-laws, my friend JoJo. 7 min apart we call midwife again. She says good now just monitor your pain and go in whenever you feel like it...try to wait til 3 min apart. We go in at 2:30 AM when they are 3-4 min apart and very painful. I was only 1 CM. I decided to go home--just me and hubby. They gave me Ambien to help me sleep. I took another bath and when the drug kicked in I was feeling crazy. I don't do well on meds--Benadryl knocks me out cold for like a whole day! Before I had a level head and was breathing through my contraction but now I couldn't sleep and was in such a fog I couldn't remember how to breath and couldn't handle the pain. We went back to hospital at 5:45 AM and I was only 3-4 CM but the contractions were right on top of each other and I wanted the epidural I was trying to avoid and I wanted it now. I got it around 7AM and then had a nice little nap. Ah better now. However, when I woke up I realized I was only numb on one side but they fixed it a little and I could handle it. Family was coming in and out and Joey was by my side the whole time except for the 10 min he snuck out to eat Subway. NO FAIR! I didn't even notice. At around noon we did a practice push since I was almost 10 CM. Jane (my midwife-you were all right she is amazing--they all are at N. FL. Midwives )came back in an hour later to do another. I didn't want her leaving again so I gave it all I had. She realized I wasn't playing and yelled to the nurse that her other patient would have to wait as I was moving my baby down with considerable force. Being a week late, I really wanted him OUT! They had turned off the epidural per my request so I could feel my contractions but not to the fullest. She told me not to wait...push whenever I felt one coming. People grabbed legs and took up their cameras. I had planned to only have my hubby and his oldest sister in there but for some reason ppl kept sneaking in and there were like 6 ppl in there! I was mad later but at the time didn't even notice and everyone was cheering me on so that was nice...just wished they had asked me before I was in such a vulnerable position. I was pushing with all I had, barely taking a breath in between. She asked for one more push and I gave her two. She pulled up her tray with vacuums, forceps and other ominous tools and I was like, "NO WAY--don't stick that suff in me--I'll take care of this right now!" (In my head) When we could see the head she pulled up a big mirror so I could watch my progress. This was gross but very encouraging since I would push and then his head would go back up. I started bearing down. No yelling, no cursing, wasn't mad at the husband. I only had one goal and I was too busy pushing it out of me. A mere 45 minutes and he was out at 2:07 PM. His head was humongous and he weighed in at 9lbs 10 oz. For a girl whose pre-prego weight is a steady 123 that's quite a big boy! However, Jane was incredible and I didn't tear at all! I was treated for Strep B bacteria, which I knew I had, with antibiotics during delivery but my little one still got it. This can be fatal in babies and just a few hours after birth he was taken to the NICU for some routine tests and he stopped breathing and turned blue. Now, he had been sleeping with Joey and I for hours and had this happened with us we may not have woken up and would not have a baby right now. He was just where he needed to be when it happened and the nurses took great care of him. That's when we found out he had still gotten the Strep B and that is unheard of--very rare. He was there for 10 days and that's a whole other story but he is healthy and home now and as usual, just where he needs to be.
Awesome birth story! Thanks for sharing. You are so brave..I would have been mortified at having all that family there....mostly mortified at what I probably would have ended up sayimg to clear the room! .
