Hey Ladies!

I have to share this with you!
My 2 year old has something called "class 3", that when the bottom part of your mouth stands out. Well, thanks to her paci that was not getting any better, so finally Thanksgiving day we decided to make it "disappear" for good!
We were having dinner with some friends and her nany's house. Her Nany sae that she let it fall on the ground and without Bianqui noticing, she took it. When Bianqui started looking for it, she told her that the frog ate it, and the dog ate the frog!
Well, since that day she has been without it. I have to say, it has been hard but it is getting better, and so are her teeth, and mouth!
She only asks for it when it is time for bed, and we always remind her, don't you remember that the frog ate it at Nana's house? An she laughs and says yeah!
SO, tell me, did you have problems when ur kids got their pacis taken away? How did you do it?

Emma never took to it so we were lucky there, but Hannah did.

When she was 1 we limited it to nap and bed time, then at 2 we took it away completely. I was due 2 months after her 2yo birthday (due on my bday actually) and didn't want to have to worry about her losing pacis while I was trying to care for the baby. She cried a couple of nights , but we got a little CD player and she got to listen to music at night and she got to pick out a nightlight.

She finally gave up the music (by force...her sister's broke) but she refuses to give up her night light...

I refuse to give up my night light too!

Neither of our kids ever used a Paci so I guess I can't much share in this experience, but I love to read the creative ways parents handle this! Big Grin

We are working on giving these up. We are just thinking of taking them away slowly. She knows what they are and ask for them.

Cold turkey was a little tough, but I hated dragging it out. I think my kids respond to more cut and dry stuff than grey areas. Others may be different. Of course I like stuff more cut and dry too so maybe that's where they get it from Smiler

My daughter had no trouble giving up the 'binky'. She loved it, don't get me wrong...she just gave it up at 2 because we told her it needed to go. However the night lite and music...she still does both. She listens to a cd everynight while she falls asleep.

Jack just loved his paci from day one but at 4 mos he just stopped. Wouldn't take it at all...not once. I even tried to get him to take it by dipping it in breast milk once to help him take his nap. He spit it out. My MIL said Joey (my hubby) was the same exactly but started sucking his thumb at 6 mos so we shall see. I hope not but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

We tried to limit "paci" just to nap and night time. My daughter liked it, but she wasn't THAT crazy about it. So we decided just to take it away at about 15 months, right about the same time we were making a 10-hour car trip! She actually did really well. My daughter started sleeping with "baby" - a soft, pink doll - when she was pretty young, so she just continued using that to calm her down if she needed something.

I had something fun happen this morning. I washed a rainjacket that my hubby pulled out of his trunk...and went to hang it when I found a tiny paci in the pocket! It did bring back memories of when the girls were so small. I'm not sure which girl it belonged to (probably Emma since we tried to give it to her, but she didn't really want it that much). So maybe, just maybe, we'll hold on to it Smiler

I just wrote about this -- what funny timing! Smiler

We took away my 1-year-old's pacifier about two weeks ago. It's been a little tough-going -- we didn't realize that he was cutting two molars, so he's been miserable! We've made it this far though, and it's slowly getting better, so we'll just keep at it a little longer.

Thanks everyone for sharing their experience.
I have to say, my Bianqui is having a har, hard time. Every night before bed she has been asking for it, over and over. Everyday it is a ordeal, and so hard to get her to satay in bed. But we are being hard, and not giving in to to it.
