We had a 6 year old girl picked up by a man on our street two days ago. He stopped her and asked her if she wanted to ride with him and "get some candy". She said "no", but he sternly said "get in" to her and she got in!! Luckily for her he got spooked somehow by something and after he got her some candy he brought her back to her street.

Luckily for all of us the candy store had video survalence and we have great law enforcment at work here and they now have him in custody.

Now I am the first one to say a six year old should NEVER have been outside by herself and I hope the parents have learned from this. My oldest girls are 15 and 16 and I don't let them out on the street to walk, bike ride or anything by themselves.

Thank God she is OK. She has an angel with her for sure! I hope they catch him. I was once told, not sure if it is true, that most children who are taken are abducted from their own yards?

That is so strange. He actually got her the candy? I hope the little girl knows that this doesn't always work like this: strangers picking you up and keeping their word and dropping you back off safely home.

I am vigilant about being outside when my boys are playing. My next door neighbor is the same way, so her and I just sit outside and chat or read magazines while the kids play. We've both said we don't care if our kids think we're overprotective, we would never take the chance of them being abducted or getting hurt.

Yes it is strange...he was apparently spooked by either thinking someone saw him or was just too nervous to follow through. And yes the deputies have had a GOOD talk with the child and the guardians.
