I mean, really, how do you feel about what is going on in the economy right now? The prices have soared and keep soaring. I just heard that the average family of three pays $300 more a month for their grocery bill than they did one year ago. Look at the cost of gas. The cost of food. The cost of everything thanks to the cost of oil. I can honestly tell you what the problem is -- we started getting everything from overseas, and from far away. What ever happened from shopping in your own back yard?

Having said that, where do we go from here, and how can change it? And how do you feel? Do you feel like we are in a crisis?

Yes, we are for sure in a financial crises.

I honestly believe we are in a recession even if there are some who is afraid to admit to it.

There is a great concern with high cost of gas, oil, food, personal and home essentials. The clue was just not the high cost of gas, but when the issues of selling and buying homes and even the Insurance issues as well.

What can we do about it? We can write, email and fax to our state representatives, congress and governors and plea with them that if this continues that they need to compromise. Not every pay check can meet to their standards of this "new lifestyle" of the rich. There are many of us on a fix income, some who don't have jobs and many families on a one income household. And it does not help that there are many large companies that are laying off people as well.

I think they need to have a FREEZE on their raise or take a cut themselves if everyone else has to.

I think as tax payers, our voices need to be heard...big time. It should not matter if you are a democrat or a republican or independant...speak your concerns. The more they hear from us, they more they will realize that there is a finanical crises- or better known as a recesssion.

And stop spending millions on fixing a toilet!!

Yes we are in a major crisis. I don't know if writing and making pleas to congress will help or not. This country seems to be in a downward spiral that will take a miracle to fix. We, as Americans definetly need to begin looking out for America. Congress can't fix this....we need to do this ourselves. We need to start supplying our own needs...that means everything. We need to drill for our own oil. We need to feed America first. We need to drive American made cars and we need to but American made products. We can fix this if we as Americans band together to save this nation...but I am not sure we have the unity that it takes to do it. People that are not feeling the crunch...and are probably the worst at buying foreign, I don't think would be willing to give up their luxurious lifestyles. This includes congressmen, senators and most of Capital Hill that has become accustomed to luxury...they don't feel this yet. Heck they don't even pay for their own gas!!!

It's obvious our country is going through a very tough time right now. But as history has proved, the economy goes through cycles. Every time gas goes up or my grocery bill rises, I just try to tell myself that it can't always be good, it can't always be bad. Hopefully next month, next year will be better. What can I say, I'm trying to be optimistic and just get through today Smiler

sorry, i don't think we are in a crisis. i think we all need to re-evaluate what our wants are versus our needs. a crisis is when there is no food to eat or we find ourselves on the streets.

we live in the most blessed country in the world. we complain because we have to look for less expensive entertainment or we eat at home a few more nights a week.

entertainment for my children is a night at the movies. entertainment when i was growing up was homemade icecream and a slip and slide in the front yard.

as a society, we have allowed our priorities to slip and now we complain because we have to adjust them back to what we used to call normal. i did not have cable growing up, we have more than 100 channels. i did not have the internet at home growing up, now we have it available on all three cell phones in my family.

and saying that executives should cut their salaries because you and i may not be doing as well is a very socialist comments. be careful what you wish for. i understand there are those on fixed incomes, my parents are on fixed incomes. but i want to know that the opportunity to maybe be consided one of the better off exists for me as well as my children. if we allow the government to control what one member of the free market society can earn than we allow them to control what we all can earn.

buckle down girls, it is going to be bumpy but as a nation, we have seen far worse.

I agree with some of what softball mom says, but also klmorg. I don't think writing to our congressmen will do anything. I think we are in a tough spot, but not a crisis.
There are some people that are already living bare min. and are finding themselves having to cut back or cut out things they shouldn't have to live without. For example, not buying fresh produce and instead buying cheaper higher sugar foods from the Dollar Tree like dried fruits.
Or sometimes rationing out the amount of milk their children each day. Just enough milk to meet their needs, but trying to make that gallon last a bit longer. Cutting meat from their dinners for at least 3 times a week. Having grilled cheese sandwiches and carrot sticks or spaghetti without meat and a one slice of garlic bread per person.
There are some people that qualify for food stamps, WIC and other programs, but not everyone does, even those making decisions like the examples.
And there are other people such as softball mom described. Who are just having to adjust to a different lifestyle. Renting movies instead of going to theater or eating at home instead of Applebee's or McDonald's.

I think we should be re-evaluating where we are at and how we got here. We need to fix our country, not try to fix everyone else's. How in the world can we tell another country how to run itself when we are such a mess?

I agree. I think we need to re-evaluate real need versus wants. I have a friend on another group who is helping an orphanage in Kenya and reading her blogs, really puts into perspective what I really do have. We struggle with money and paying bills, but we do have many more opportunities for earning money than many other countries. I remind myself (and my kiddos) to be thankful for the fact that we have clean running water and grocery stores...
