OK so I know I sound like an idiot but I have a for real question I've been pondering all morning! I want to go to Publix. However, I can't figure out what you all do with the baby that's not old enough to sit in the cart. I have the cute car seat with the matching stroller but I can't put groceries in it and don't think pushing stroller and cart is the answer. I can't put the car seat in the cart since I need it for the groceries. I have a sling but don't want to carry him around for an hour. He's nearly 11 lbs and my back hurts! So...what's the trick ladies? What am I missing?

Put the front part out like you would if a child was sitting in it, and the car seat props in there perfectly. I was always nervous about them falling out, but those seats don't even move!

Many of the seat/stroller combos actually have a notch in the babies seat that hooks in to the cart and latches. As long as the seat is secure, you shouldn't have any issues.

Mary, Please please please be careful putting the carrier in the front. Mine specifically said NOT to so look at your instruction manual. My suggestion is to look for the cart that has a baby seat already attached at the front. Just put a light blanket over it after disenfecting it with the wipes Publix supplies in the lobby. Or take your husband and put the carrier in the back and the groceries in the Hubby's cart. Safety first above all else Smiler

Yes do be careful..but like Casmly mentioned some of the carseats have the 'indent' or 'notch' that is made to hold the carseat securly on the basket. If not then you would need to put the carrier in the large part of the basket or use the existing ones (just be sure to clean it well ). I think most newer seats do have this notch...mine did. Good Luck

My carseat had the latch... but we just got really good at packing groceries in the cart. We would put her seat directly in the cart and then just stack stuff around her (maybe this is why we made 3 trips to Publix a week!)

Our infant seat had the notch as well..it worked great at Publix BUT at Target it would seem like it latched on and it actually wasn't. It will keep it from flipping forward but what we came to realize the hard way, is that it does not keep ing from flipping backwards. Our daughter was 4 when little man was born and she pulled on the back of it to stand up in the cart and the whole thing almost flipped upside down into the back...ACK! The slings hurt my back as well but the front pack carrier...like the Snuggli, worked great...the weight was distributed evenly and I found them comfy enough to wear for the whole trip. Both of mine were big ones too Smiler

Thanks! I tried putting the seat in the front part at Target but it did NOT feel secure. I will look for the latch thingy since I have a nice new Graco car seat that I really love and it should have one.

What I did when my daughter was an infant was take in a few blankets to place in the seat part of the cart. I would flip op the plastic thingy to cover the leg holes, then place 2 blankets, folded for some cushion, on the bottom, then the last blanket I would drape over all of the seat part and sides. This would make a "make-shift" bed for to lay safely in until she was old enough to sit up.
They also have those cart-covers now that you can stretch over the seat part, just remember to flip that plastic thingy over the leg openings.

If you don't like the carseat on the cart then try a buggybagg cart cover. It is the best I've ever tried, it is really plush and completely covers the cart, it even has it's own buckle. I think that you can buy one in town at a couple of places. We got ours from Weecycle but I saw online that you can get them at Especially for Women.

Check out www.wearyourbaby.com and you can find a lot of other carriers to use that will be better for your back and your baby will love. I used the wrap and did the front wrap cross (as did all my other mom friends) my baby loved it and would always fall asleep (it was really great for going out to dinner, he would fall asleep and I could eat) I have lower back problems as well but he was so close to my body that the center of gravity was great, I actually wore him in it until he was a year old. It leaves your hands free for all the other things you have to do in a day. You can make them very cheaply, the site explains it but you just get 5 yards of fabric and cut it lengthwise into 3 long pieces approx 20 inches wide. You end up with 3 slings so you have 1 to keep and 2 to share with someone else who will also love it! You can use the same sling for other carries as well, there are instructions for other uses so as your baby gets bigger you can change it up. I really hope you try it, it was certainly my most valued baby tool and everyone I know who's tried it has loved it as well as their babies...

I've been on that site for like an hour! It's so cool thanks. I can't wait to go grab some fabric and try it out. I may need some time to figure it all out.

It helps to have someone show you but I work FT so I can't make it to the mom groups that meet nor am I making it to the mom's night out. Another site that is good for seeing how to tie it is www.thebabywearer.com. One of them has a video to show you how to do it but I can't remember which one. The first time you do it with a small baby it is easier to have someone help you put the baby in there but once you've done it once or twice you'll have it down. Your baby will sleep so soundly in there too, you will be amazed!

Wow thank you for the site, it is great. My baby is 7 months old, and 20lbs but always wanted to get one of the slings, just didn't want to part with the money!
