# of kids: 1 new baby boy

My husband and I had our first date away from the baby on Saturday (my birthday). We went to see the batman movie and dropped the baby off with Grandpa. I felt good about it but by the time previews were over and the movie had barely started my breasts and heart were hurting. I tell you I never saw it coming. I've been with him day and night for 3 weeks and needed the break but all of the sudden I was REALLY missing him. It just hit me! It didn't help that the movie was super long and I could not wait to go get my "chunkers." I'm not going to be an obsessive mommy but I won't lie--we cancelled our dinner plans because leaving him twice in one day was too much for me too soon. One day at a time I guess.

Mary, I know EXACTLY what you mean.

And I also know this... in time, it will pass.

Just wait until your children are teenagersWink

Seriously speaking; the fact that you miss your young child says very positive things about YOU. Babies are innocent and needy and soft and kissable. They rely on us for life itself. I can't imagine any mother WANTING to be away from her baby unless it's because she's physically and/or emotionally exhausted (and it happens to the best of mothers).

I hated leaving my two when they were young and even now I cry (yes, it's embarrassing) whenever they travel with their grandparents. Our daughter just spent 2 wks in Europe; we received just 2 e-mails from her and no phone calls! I was a wreck!!! But learning to let go is good for both her and for me. Someday my husband and I will have a not-so-full house and hopefully we'll know what to do with each otherSmiler.
