My baby is almost 7 months old and I have about 6 bags of frozen BM left and I have very little if any supply left when he nurses. I am thinking of trying fenugreek but I have no idea where to get it or if it even works. Has anyone tried it? And if so, does it work? I have been thinking of stopping anyway, but formula is so expensive and BM is free and better for the baby, any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Melissa

It does work and you can buy it at Mother Earth. There is also a lactation tea that works-also sold at Mother Earth in Gainesville. When I was trying to boost my milk production I also took a lactation supplement (pill form) that was all natural. They sell it in Mother Earth-just cannot recall the name. If you ask the person working in the vitamin area what you are looking for, they will be able to help. Good luck!

I did, and I think it worked great. Like LEW, I got it at Mother Earth. The great thing about it is you only have to use it for a short time to see its benefits. I think I used it for about two weeks total and was able to start getting one or two bags to freeze a day. Once your milk supply increases, just be sure you're nursing and pumping and your supply should stay up. Good luck with it. The only side effect I read about was that you may start smelling like maple syrup (weird, I know), but I never experienced that.

i tried it and I didn't like it. My mother is a pharmacist and she yelled at me for using it. She said the risks of using it are unknown. She said people automatically think because it says "herbal" on it that it is not harmful but that isn't necessarily true. None of those things are monitored by the FDA.

I never had any side effects, except for better milk production. It was recommended by my pediatrician and the lactation consultant at the hospital.

Ahhh, I remember breastfeeding. It was probably the single most rewarding thing I did for my daughter when she was a baby.

After a rocky couple of weeks at the beginning, we went gangbusters, pumping, freezing milk, etc.

I'm a little embarrassed to say that it went so well, my daughter breastfed until she was 2 yrs and 3 mths old.

Granted, by then, we were down to one boob (she had bitten me on the other one, so there was a permanent band-aid on it to remind her it was off limits) and down to just a couple of times a day, including right before bedtime.

And, yes. There was still milk.

How long did you guys breastfeed? Any funny weaning stories?

I have some but did read something in a book I have that strongly advised against it due to some herbal qualities that may be harmful. I'll try to find it but it seems others have not had problems so I don't know.

I used it in pill form and did smell like maple syrup. I didn't think that would really happen. It did. It boosted my production a lot. No side affects.

Wow, this is all really interesting. I never heard anything negative about it until now. I guess when anyone asks me about it in the future, I'll tell them they should check with their doc. I guess just because we had no side effects doesn't mean everyone won't.

Thanks for all the info, I bought some today to try. I hope it works!! It should be interesting to smell like maple syrup. I know there are risks to anything herbal or OTC but I will call the doc anyway just to double check. Thanks again!!
