We have baby! Kind of... Our son is going through a little sick spell. He had an apnea incident and has been kept in the NICU ever since for tests tests and more tests. They found he has a bacteria that should be cleared up with a round of antibiotics. However, that will take 7 days and we have been discharged. I cried the whole time the nurse went over our discharge papers. I know he will be fine as he is eating well and has had no more "incidents" but I wanted to go home with my baby! I know there are many of you out there who must know what I'm feeling and then some. Please keep my family in your prayers. He really is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my whole life.

Jack is such a beauty
I can absolutely identify. I delivered Hannah via C-section in the morning (so I had a spinal). Well during delivery, she inhaled some fluid and had to be kept in the special care nursery. So everyone else in my family got to see her before me. I had to wait until I could feel my feet before being transfered into a wheelchair. So it was 3 ish before I was able to get a glimpse of my first baby girl. Then I was discharged a day before she was. Thankfully, at North Florida, they let you stay as long as they have the room. So we were able to stay one night in the old maternity ward and they discharged Hannah the next day. I'm so sorry you won't be going home with Jack, but you'll get a lot of time with him for the next several decades |

Oh Mary, I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for you to leave Jack at the hospital. I'm so happy to hear that he's doing well though, and hopefully he will be home with you in your arms soon.

I am so sorry to hear that. I know how hard this is. My son had to stay an additional night in the NICU as he had a very low temp and they wanted to observe him. I had an emergency c-section after a very long labor (water was broken for almost 24hrs). He was fit as a fiddle though in the end. Hang in there! They are taking good care of him and he will be home before you know it!

Hawthorne 3 wonderful kids! step-son (17) son (8) girl (5) |
I had to leave my first born in the hospital too. He wasn't breathing when he was born and then spiked a temp. He had to go through a round of antibiotics and a few days of observation.
It was so hard. I sat all day everyday with him while he was there. Then when he got home I didn't want to let him out of my sight. As hard as these days seem to have to go without him, it will be over fast and you will be enjoying him every second of the day at home. Tammy |

It IS hard. You want your baby home with you, but I don't understand why you couldn't stay in the hospital. My SIL did that with her baby, who stayed an extra week. Was that an option for you?

Congratulations on your baby! I'm sorry he couldn't come home with you. My sister's baby couldn't come home for a week, either. It was terribly difficult for her, but it also provided some of the physical rest that she needed to recover. Not that you wouldn't rather have your baby with you. I'll pray that the time will go by quickly!

NW Gainesville 2..girl 7 and boy 3 |
I'm so happy he is finally here! And sorry he had to stay....it sounds exactly like what happened to my sis when my nephew was born. They said he had an unidentified infection that a week's worth of antibiotics would clear up. It completely cleared up and he was home in about 5 days. Hang in there...

Hang in there Mary! Our little girl was seven weeks early and had to stay in Special Care Nursery at North Florida for 16 days. That was tough. We were able to board there for several days so we could be close to her and there for her feedings.
It is really hard. Just know that they are doing this for Jack. The nurses in that nursery are the BEST! When we were there, 2 years ago this Sunday, there were two Lisas and two Pattys that really stood out to us. They were wonderful to our little girl and to us. I hope you all get to go home soon. Healthy! Good Luck and Congrats! |

We are hanging in there. I had an emotional day today and I had to leave the hospital while they put his IV in his cries tore my heart in pieces so. The staff is great and apparantly he has a bacterial infection. I knew I had the Strep B that is common and occurs naturally in some women. I was treated with antibiotics during labor which was supposed to prevent the baby getting the infection on the way out but he got it anyway

lancaster, kentucky 2 official children (daughter, 5yrs...son, 6 1/2 yrs) do my hubby and chihuahua count as children? |
congrats on baby Jack! i know how you feel. when Lilly was born she was 10 weeks early and her lungs were not developed. she ended up in the NICU for 2 weeks. it sucked. alot of people will tell you "hang in there" and "it will be ok". you know all that. im telling you it sucked! bad! i wanted to pick her up when i wanted, but i had to wait for a nurse who didnt even know her name (they didnt "let" us name her until she was a week old). i couldnt change her diaper without asking. i couldnt feed her without an ok from someone. she didnt have any infections but she went through under developed lungs, jaundice, feeding tubes, breathing tubes, you name it. Everything will turn out great. he seems like a big otherwise healthy boy. maybe he'll have a faster recovery. my thoughts and prayers are with you!! hugs!!

Dear Mary,
It is a scary time right now, with baby Jack in ICU, but God is watching over your little miracle, your husband and you. You know this. I'm sure you are surrounded by family and friends. Let them help you and take care of yourself. We are all thinking of you. |
