Here is a trend...giving new mothers gifts of jewelery, particularly diamonds, just after they give birth. Is this an example of materialism run amok? Or does it show that men are more compassionate these days after seeing their spouses go through the pain of childbirth?
Perhaps it's a creation of the jewelry industry in order to sell more products. What do you think? As for me, I always like receiving gifts, but of course I do not expect one and I don't think it needs to be diamonds. Flowers (or chocolates) are always nice. Although, him helping with baby in the middle of many nights is the best gift I could think of Read about it. This message has been edited. I think a Push Present is an excellent idea. After all, we are the ones who give up the sushi and alcohol and then have to work hard to get our bodies back while losing sleep and changing diapers. Of course, I would never expect my husband to spend as much money as the jewelry stores are pushing for (after all, it is their job to sell, sell, sell!). I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice, but realistically, many parents are just trying to figure out how to include the cost of diapers into their budget.
But there are all kinds of neat gifts our husbands could come up with. I think the most important part of giving something to the mom is to commemorate the birth of their new child. I personally have an Italian charm bracelet I got off ebay for $1.99. There are all kinds of charms on there starting off at $.99 and I'd love to add a charm with each of my children's birthstones. I guess for me, the jewelry doesn't have to be expensive to be valuable! I think a mini-scrapbook recording the entire pregnancy (leaving a few pages for the birth) is another good idea, but I know most men aren't going to think in that direction (or have time to put it together!) I'd love to hear some other ideas for not-so-expensive push presents. Any ideas? |

Yes, I think you are right...the idea is a good one if you are not demanding diamonds, heh. You know, I always love things that are home-made..cards and that sort of thing. And I love when my husband makes things with my children to give to me. I actually just like being acknowledged..and for me, that can be a .99 card and a single rose.

After a friend of mine adopted their second child, her husband gave her a small necklace with two pearls in a pea pod, 2 peas in a pod, get it
I thought it was a very neat gesture. They'd been through in vitro and everything and are not planning on having any more kiddos so I think it was a thank you for everything. |

I love the symbolism of that. He really put some thought into that, and so I think that was a great, and very sentimental push present. Way to go, dad!
