1 daughter (8), 1 son (2), and 1 on the way. |
When I was a single mom in need of a job, I went to TempForce.
I ended up working through them steady for almost 4 years before I remarried and was lucky enough to get to be a stay-at-home mom. Otherwise, I would probably still be working through them. I loved the woman who found my jobs. Her name was Lou, but I don't know if she is still there (I left 1.5 years ago). Despite the temping part, I only worked 4 jobs while I worked for them. One was a shorter 2 months, 1 was for 6 months, 1 was until they hired someone else, about a month, and the last was for 3 months shy of 3 years. Sometimes, the companies will hire you away from the service, which almost happened to me at my last one. In fact, my last job (the one I was at for almost 3 years) is asking me to come back and work for them from home. Just an idea. |

You should apply at Khols...(spelling?)... their new store is almost done being built on 13th street near the corner of Archer road... they are taking applications for all positions.
That would be my best suggestion. Good luck! |

Daughter 1994 & son 2000. |
Do a search for the Gainesville city positions along with the county positions. The govt jobs probably pay a little better AND offer some benefits. You'd also be likely to move up in whatever position you accept. There is less stability and more odd hours working in business. When I used to work with abused women/children, the govt jobs seemed to be better suited for single mothers with children. Best of luck to you. You sound like a hard worker so I'm sure you'll end up on your feet (and doing quite well).

Huntington WV. Gainesville for 20 years 2 daughters 4 grandkids |
I would try the Wal-Mart distribution center in Alachua.
I work there and love it. I will state the following just FYI. 1. The work is hard physical labor ( unless you are in the office area) 2. You cannot have a record… 3. It is a drug free work place 4. They are very unforgiving about missing days. Running home for what ever reason is just not done. ( I say this because at my last job the younger mom’s would have to go home because their kids were sick or something and it happened so often some of the other employees had a problem with it) that’s the only draw back for young mom’s, (you would have to have someone who could be the go get sick kids person) 5. Its long hard hours. 6. Most positions are un-loaders….You are unloading trucks all day, big trucks, heavy box’s standing all day. The Pro’s 1. They are wonderful to work for. 2. The pay is great. 3. Your fellow workers are fun to be with 4. It’s like a family type work area. 5. Your supervisors really care about you and help you in any way they can. 6. I have worked with some of the best people there is there. 7. My daughter Brandy worked there as well and they were so understanding and sympathetic and helpful to me when she passed away, They went above and beyond the call of duty. 8. This is the best job I have ever had! Brandy's Proud Mom 1981 / 2007 She will live in my heart forever |
